Find the schedule controller, separate the charging target and preserve one useful session record before changing several settings.

A missed overnight charge needs a clear sequence of observations. Start by finding who controls the start time, then separate the schedule from the car's target and the energy actually delivered.

Applies to

UK electric MGs with the relevant charging functions. This is a record-and-check workflow, not a universal touchscreen procedure or an instruction to change a smart-tariff integration.

01 / Map the controls before changing them

Write down where a timer exists: the vehicle, iSMART, wallbox or tariff app. Some app and car settings may represent the same vehicle schedule; do not count them as independent controllers without checking. Record the requested target, ready-by time and any charger or tariff limit separately.

MG UK's charging-app explainer describes remote start, finish and charging management on supported vehicles. It does not establish an identical menu or feature set for every MG. Use your exact handbook and the integration's current instructions.

02 / Use the existing isolation tool

Open the charging workspace's Schedule Conflict Finder. Select the layers that actually have schedules and follow its controlled checks. Keep a note of the original settings. Do not switch off every control at once: that can remove an off-peak restriction without showing which layer caused the missed charge.

For a supplier-managed service, first confirm which device the service controls and whether charging outside a fixed window is part of its current terms. Another owner's hours or tariff price may not apply to your account. A manual or boost charge may cost more.

03 / Observe one ordinary session

Your charging record

  • Exact MG, battery version and software shown.
  • Date, start percentage, requested target and ready-by time.
  • Controller responsible for starting the session.
  • Actual start/end times, final percentage and charger kWh.
  • Full warning, app timestamp and charger identifier if it failed.
  • One supported setting changed, and the result.

A saved timer is not proof that energy flowed. Check the physical car and charger, then use the receipt or session log to confirm delivered energy. An old app timestamp can be a separate connection problem.

04 / Keep the useful evidence

Use the Session Investigator to understand a slow session, and keep a dated summary in Passport. Those charging-tool entries are temporary; Passport records are saved locally when you choose to save them.

If a plug is damaged, unusually hot, sparking or accompanied by a safety warning, stop testing and use the appropriate operator or assistance route. For a trapped connector, open the existing charging recovery guide. Do not pull fuses, disconnect the 12-volt battery or repeatedly rebind the app to investigate a timer.
