MG does not currently publish one definitive latest firmware number covering every UK electric MG, trim and production batch.
Software update centre
Know what is current—and what is not published.
Vehicle software, navigation maps and the MG iSMART phone app are separate. This page shows the verified update route for each without treating owner-group version numbers as a UK master list.
Current UK App Store release when checked on 8 September 2026. App releases can roll out separately from vehicle software.
Google Play publicly shows the update date; the visible store page does not provide one universal version number.
Check compatible phones and pair MG iSMART step by step →
The short answer: your car is current only when the update checker for that exact vehicle reports no newer release, or an MG Authorised Repairer confirms it. A number from another owner may belong to a different model, hardware revision, market or module.
Four different kinds of update
Check inside the car
On supported systems, look in Settings, then System or Software/Upgrade. Exact labels vary. The MG4 handbook describes System → Upgrade → Detect New Version and says to follow the on-screen prompts when a release is detected.
Maps are separate
Some MG systems provide a Map Update option; some older official procedures use correctly prepared USB media. Applicability depends on the precise model and infotainment edition. Do not use a download merely because it says “MG4” or “MG5”.
Update through your app store
MG iSMART is updated on the phone, independently of the car. Features depend on the vehicle. Use only the official listing from SAIC/MG and check the version shown on your own device.

Handled by the repairer
Control-module work, service campaigns and recalls may not appear as a customer-downloadable update. Check recalls by registration and ask an MG Authorised Repairer to check the vehicle record.

No model below has a verified public UK master firmware number. The route shown is the safe place to begin; menu wording can still vary by trim, production date and installed software.

|---|---|---|
| MG4 EV / XPOWER | Not published | System / Upgrade checker where fitted; otherwise MG repairer |
| MG4 EV Urban | Not published | Exact in-car Software/System screen or MG repairer |
| MGS5 EV | Not published | Exact in-car Software/System screen or MG repairer |
| MGS6 EV | Not published | Exact in-car Software/System screen or MG repairer |
| MG Cyberster | Not published | Cyberster system prompt or MG repairer |
| MG IM5 | Not published | IM cockpit update prompt or MG repairer |
| MG IM6 | Not published | IM cockpit update prompt or MG repairer |
Earlier UK electric MGs
MG5 EV and MG ZS EV owners should use the exact handbook and retailer record for their production version. Older map-update instructions and USB packages are edition-specific; they are not evidence of current vehicle firmware and must not be transferred between models.
How to check and update safely
Identify the exact vehicle
Record model, trim, registration year and—if known—production date. Similar-looking cars can have different hardware and software.
Record what is installed
While safely parked, photograph the complete version/About screen and any update notice. Capture every listed component, not only the first number.
Use the built-in checker
Open the vehicle’s System, Software or Upgrade area and follow the handbook or screen wording for your car. If no update control exists, contact an MG Authorised Repairer.
Prepare before installation
Park somewhere safe with suitable battery charge and a reliable connection if requested. Read the full prompt before accepting. Do not begin when the car will shortly be needed.
Do not interrupt it
Do not drive, power-cycle the vehicle, remove update media or disconnect a requested power source unless the vehicle explicitly instructs you to do so.
Verify the result
Photograph the resulting version screen and test normal operation before leaving. If an update stalls, repeats, shows a warning or removes a function, stop experimenting and contact the repairer.
The official MY23 MG4 handbook says software can be viewed under System and an available application-software update can be downloaded and installed by following interface prompts. It also directs owners to an MG Authorised Repairer for software-version, map and voice-upgrade details.
What to send when asking for help
- exact model, trim and registration year;
- a clear photo of the full version screen;
- the precise update message or failure wording;
- whether the car had mobile data, Wi-Fi or USB connected;
- date, time and how long the screen remained unchanged;
- what functions changed after the update.
Do not post your VIN, registration, home location, app login, QR binding code or account details publicly. You can send MyMGEV a redacted version report; owner reports help us look for patterns but are not presented as confirmed releases.
Verified update log
| Checked | Product | Public status | Evidence |
|---|---|---|---|
| 8 Sep 2026 | MG iSMART · iOS UK | Version 3.1.6 | UK Apple App Store |
| 8 Sep 2026 | MG iSMART · Android | Store updated 3 Sep 2026 | Google Play |
| 8 Sep 2026 | UK vehicle firmware | No public all-model master version located | Use vehicle checker / MG repairer |
| 8 Sep 2026 | Navigation data | Model and edition-specific | MG handbook / navigation manual |
“No public master version” does not mean no updates exist. It means MyMGEV has not found an authoritative UK list that safely proves one number is current for every affected car.
