Identify the applicable MG service plan, prepare the appointment and distinguish an invoice, the official record and your private timeline.

A dashboard reminder, an invoice and a manufacturer's service record are different things. Before the appointment, establish the schedule for your exact MG. Afterwards, check that the work and the record agree.

Applies to

UK electric MG owners preparing for servicing or checking a used car's history. Exact intervals and work vary by model, edition and applicable service plan.

01 / Choose the correct schedule

MG UK's servicing page separates MG4 EV (2022 onwards), MG4 EV (2026 onwards), XPOWER, MGS5, Cyberster, MG5 and ZS EV entries. It also shows a low-mileage plan for the earlier MG4. Do not treat a forum answer saying “every two years” or a generic page introduction as your exact schedule.

For the earlier MG4, the published standard plan is 15,000 miles/12 months and the low-mileage plan is 10,000 miles/12 months. Ask the service provider which plan applies to your vehicle and how age and mileage determine its next due date. Do not choose a plan solely because its quoted price is lower.

02 / Ask for an itemised appointment

Before authorising the work

  • Confirm the exact model, generation and service-plan basis.
  • Provide the last completed service date and mileage.
  • Ask which checks, fluids, filters or other replacements are due now.
  • Separate scheduled maintenance from a fault investigation, software work or an optional extra.
  • Ask for the price and approval process before additional work.
  • For a lease or company car, confirm the booking route with the responsible fleet provider.

A warning or recurring fault needs its own clear description. “Service the car” is not a substitute for recording when a problem occurs or asking whether it has been investigated.

03 / Check the official record

MG UK says its dealers register servicing on the Digital Service Record system. Its page also describes assistance renewal linked to an enrolled service, subject to conditions and exclusions. Ask for confirmation of the completed entry, the next due date and any assistance cover that actually applies; do not assume that paying an invoice alone proves all three.

Keep the dated invoice and itemised work record. If a document is missing or inconsistent, ask the provider to correct or explain it while the visit is recent.

04 / Keep your own usable copy

Add a service note to Passport with the date, odometer, work summary and document reference. Set a reminder only after the next due date is confirmed. MyMGEV's local Passport is your own timeline; it does not update MG's Digital Service Record or establish warranty eligibility.

Download a Passport backup before changing devices or clearing browser storage. Store the actual invoice securely too: a short timeline note is not the original document.

Evidence and limits

Reviewed 16 October 2026 against MG UK: service schedules and digital records, including the earlier and 2026 MG4 entries. Check the live model entry and your vehicle documents before booking. The preparation checklist is original editorial guidance; it does not decide a warranty claim or prescribe one interval for all electric MGs.
