The distinctions that matter

Earlier SE and Trophy cars belong to another range

This guide covers the UK 2026 Premium Long Range, Premium Extended Range and XPOWER reference. An earlier SE or Trophy is not renamed Premium by a software update. Registration year alone can be misleading when older stock is registered later; confirm the model-year specification with the retailer.

MG4 Urban is a separate model family

Urban is not a trim of the rear-wheel-drive MG4 covered here. It has its own Comfort and Premium grades and separate technical references. If the paperwork says MG4 EV Urban, use our Urban guide before comparing charging, range or control instructions.

Extended range and XPOWER change different things

Premium Extended Range prioritises a larger battery reference, while XPOWER changes the drivetrain. Neither is a simple equipment-only upgrade. Select by the full order description and keep any later wheel changes in your owner record.

Identify it in four checks

Read the order or invoice. Copy the full model and grade, including Standard Range, Long Range, Extended Range or Dual Motor wording. Do not use the paint colour as identification.
Confirm the model year. Ask whether the registration year and factory specification differ. This is especially useful for old stock and used cars.
Match the handbook. Obtain the manual edition for the actual vehicle. Keep the PDF or supplied handbook where you can reach it without a mobile signal.
Record modifications separately. Wheels, tyres and accessories fitted after manufacture may no longer match the brochure. Ask the retailer to resolve a mismatch before relying on a specification.

Only a capacity explicitly labelled “usable” is suitable for a usable-kWh calculator. WLTP and maximum DC values are reference figures, not guaranteed journey distance or charging performance.

When the paperwork is unclear

I cannot find my grade in the selector

Do not choose the closest-looking name. Check whether the car belongs to another generation or market. Keep the full invoice description and ask the retailer for the matching UK specification. The links below still provide general owner support.

Can a photo identify my trim?

It can help a retailer investigate, but it is not conclusive. Wheel swaps and shared body styling can make different grades look alike. The factory specification and actual fitted equipment take priority.

What should I save?

Save the model and grade here if useful. Keep registration/VIN documents, the tyre label and access-device inventory in your own private records. The My Garage button changes only the saved vehicle selection in this browser.
